Beer and Brown Sugar Steak

So I found this recipe from www.tailgatingideas.com (through the Costco Magazine).  We gave it a try tonight and low and behold… it was tasty!  I’ve cut and pasted the recipe below just in case you want to give it a go…

Beer and Brown Sugar Steak

  • 2 (24 ounce) beef sirloin steaks
  • 1 bottle of Guinness
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 5 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of seasoned salt
  • 1 tablespoon of black pepper
  • 4 tablespoons of minced garlic
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, diced*
  • 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper

Pre-Game

  1. Use a fork to poke holes on the surface of the steaks.
  2. Mix together the beer, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, jalapeno pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Pour the sauce over the steaks.
  4. Using a zip lock bag, marinate the steaks overnight (for a least 10 hours).

Game Time

  1. Equally divide the remaining dry ingedients (salt, pepper, and garlic).
  2. Remove the steaks from the zip lock bag. Pour some of the remaining marinade into a small bowl and set aside.
  3. Sprinkle 1/2 the remaining dry ingredients on one side of the steaks.
  4. Set the steaks aside for 5 minutes.
  5. Turn the steaks over, and sprinkle the remaining dry ingredients on the steaks.
  6. Set the steaks aside for 5 minutes.
  7. Preheat grill for high heat and lightly oil the grill grate.
  8. Grill the steaks to the desired doneness. Throughout the grilling baste the steaks with the leftover marinade.

*WARNING:  Do NOT be a nub like me and forget to wear gloves while cutting the jalapeno pepper.  My hands are still stinging – thankfully, I didn’t touch my eyes or mouth after doing so…
